  9. The Big Bang. Yesterday, about the same time the world was mourning the loss of a supernova, in a parallel universe my entire solar system was shutting down. My papa, Kyo Takahashi, died in Traverse City, Michigan, after having made it through a relatively routine operation. He was 84 years old. I can’t give much more today. However, I shall properly eulogize him once I can turn on the lights in my mind to rummage for the words, English, Japanese or otherwise, that can aptly shape the extraordinary father and guiding light he was to me. I prepared myself for this day since I was a little girl. I knew, god willing, that I would survive both my parents who I adored with all my heart, and doggone it I have. I was reared an only child, but I am surrounded by loving sisters and brothers from all around the world. My parents are now both cosmic particles, but they have made me strong, so I will find my way out of this dark paper bag. Papa, I honor you for the rest of my life. You gave me unrelenting courage, support, and creativity every day of my life, but most of all the pure and unapologetic love and respect for all life. Thank you. I love you. I miss you. And with you, I pray for peace on earth. This is the last photo we took together last fall at the De Young Museum.
